DIGITAL CAMERAS

Digital cameras, also known as Digicams to us today are the new generation cameras that capture photographs and record videos (in advanced models) by the help of specialized image sensors. These new electronic gadgets come in various attractive shapes, colors and specifications. With digital cameras, one can easily view images instantaneously after being recorded on the screen of ones computer, the built-in LCD of the camera or even on the television at times
These digital cameras store the data on memory cards which are of different storage capacities. Thus, the bigger the size of the card, the more one can store. You can connect them to the computer by both data cables as well as wireless connections. Wireless connections of these cameras are mostly Bluetooth technology based. These devices store pictures and videos in various formats. For pictures, the most popular format is JPEG format. TIF format is another format in which these devices store pictures. The movies can also be stored on various formats similarly. The most commonly used formats include AVI format, MPEG format, DV format, WMV format and MOV format. Some cameras also provide a useful option of labeling the pictures or videos recorded on them with the time and date of capture.

Digicams are mostly battery powered and the time for which they remain ready for use depends on how long can the batteries last. The batteries may be rechargeable or non rechargeable. These batteries can be the commonly available AA-sized or AAA-sized batteries or even the Lithium batteries at times.

When buying a digital camera one should keep a few things in mind, such as: Resolution: Many people believe that higher the resolution better will be the results. However, this is not really true. For a person doing photography on a professional level, yes it matters, but for non professionals, a 7 mega pixel camera is as good as a 14 mega pixel camera. Zoom level: zoom is a very important option available in the digital cameras. When capturing distant objects, the option of zooming in comes in handy. The cameras available today provide the option of 8x 12x zoom. One thing which should be kept in mind is that when taking pictures after zooming in, the picture should not go blur. To prevent this, some digital cameras have the option of “Image Stabilization” available. Batteries: Most digital cameras use batteries as a source of power. The batteries may be chargeable or non chargeable “off the shelf” type. It’s better to go for cameras that use non rechargeable type batteries as they are readily available. Memory cards: usually digital cameras use memory cards as storage devices, and just like any other storage device, memory cards can also lose data. Thus, one should always have multiple small memory cards for data storage so that data loss could be minimized. Repair: It’s always wiser to go for a camera of a brand which has its service centre located within your reach so that your camera can be repaired properly if required.
